Welcome to the pottery course at our little ceramic oasis in the heart of Stockholm. Take a moment to pause in your daily life, let go of performance and demands, and allow the clay to lead you into total presence for a few hours.
Prerequisites
The course is suitable for both complete beginners and those with previous experience at an intermediate level. Instruction is provided in the form of individual guidance, and you have good opportunities to develop if you take multiple courses or sessions.
Course structure and content
You will learn throwing, trimming, various decoration techniques, and glazing. You will also be shown how to throw cups, bowls, jars, throwing on the wheel, and candlesticks - high, low, large, and small. We will also learn about kneading, recycling, testing porcelain clay, and other aspects of the ceramic process. Depending on your skill level, we will help you further develop. Those who have previously taken courses with us will receive new tasks/challenges to follow during the different sessions if desired, as well as the opportunity to fire and glaze gradually throughout the course. Everyone has their own shelf and potter's wheel throughout the course. Max 14 participants
Session 1: Mandatory session for beginners. Demonstration of centering and throwing the basic shape cylinder.
Session 2: Demonstration of trimming
Sessions 3-6: Practice and demonstration of various techniques
Session 7: Mandatory for beginners - Glazing (can possibly be switched to another evening the same week in case of conflict)
After the glazing session, the pieces will be fired and will be ready for pickup after the summer. We will email when it is time for pickup (likely week 36 and 37)
The instruction mainly consists of practical work under the guidance of the course leader.
The course fee includes:
- Course compendium
- Drejverkstaden's large shopping bag
- 3kg stoneware clay (after that 100kr/kg which includes colors, glazes, and 2 firings)
- Engobes/glazes/decorative materials + 2 firings
- Coffee/tea and snack supplies during the break each time
- Opportunity to leave your work shoes
To make up for missed sessions
Nothing we guarantee can be done, but if you report your absence in good time, we can usually arrange for you to make up for it in someone else's place the same or following week.
Screen-free
At Drejverkstaden, we want you all to experience a calm atmosphere when you come in from a hectic Stockholm. Therefore, no computers or other screens are allowed to be used inside the premises. Mobile phones must always be set to silent mode when in the premises.
Sustainable materials
At Drejverkstaden, we are very mindful of the environment and work according to a sustainability plan in everything we do. The clays we purchase mostly come from Witgerts, which has a strong environmental policy. In the courses, we only work with stoneware clays. The advantage of stoneware is that the fired products are very durable and that the glazes are more environmentally friendly. We strive to mix the glazes as environmentally friendly and sustainable as possible. We pre-rinse all our glazing tools and thereby recycle all glaze residue particles, which in turn become a new glaze. The electricity we use comes solely from renewable energy.

Cancellation and refund
Full refund within 14 days (according to the right of withdrawal law) from the date of payment. After that, a cancellation fee of 500kr/spot will be deducted if you cancel after these 2 weeks. However, you can switch your course free of charge to another session if space allows. The earlier you reschedule, the greater the chance you will get the spot you wish to switch to. Rescheduling must be done at least 14 days before the course starts; otherwise, 50% of the course fee will be charged. In case of a canceled course on our part (see General Terms), the full course fee will be refunded.
