Welcome to the pottery course at Drejverkstaden, where you will learn everything about throwing.

The course fee includes:

  • Course compendium
  • Drejverkstaden fabric bag
  • 3kg stoneware clay + slips/glazes/decorative materials + firing
  • Coffee/tea and snack accessories during the break every time
  • Opportunity to leave your work shoes

Prerequisites

The course is suitable for both complete beginners and those with previous experience. The teaching takes place in the form of individual guidance, and you have good opportunities to develop if you take several courses or sessions. A certificate of completed course will be provided if desired.

Course structure and content

You will learn the basics of throwing, trimming, decoration techniques, and glazing. You will also be shown how to throw cups, bowls, jars, and candlesticks - tall, short, large, and small. Depending on your skill level, we will help you further develop.

Session 1: Demonstration of centering and throwing a cylinder
Session 2: Demonstration of trimming
Sessions 3-5: Practice and demonstration of various techniques
Session 6: Porcelain clay
Session 7: Glazing

The teaching consists mainly of practical work under the guidance of the course leader. Everyone has their own potter's wheel throughout the course.

Sustainable materials

In the courses, we work with two different stoneware clays. The advantage of stoneware is that the fired products are very durable and that the glazes are more environmentally friendly. At Drejverkstaden, we are very mindful of the environment and work in everything we do according to a sustainability plan. The clays we purchase come from Witgerts, which has a strong environmental policy. We strive to mix the glazes as environmentally friendly and sustainable as possible. We pre-rinse all our glazing tools.

Where

In Drejverkstaden's beautiful course facilities at Holländargatan 33, Stockholm.
