Shape Your Own Figure

Take part in Emil's knowledge and techniques in shaping, throwing, and sculpture in this wonderful two-day workshop. The workshop is practical, and Emil's demonstrations are interspersed with personal work and individual guidance.

The course fee includes:

  • Materials: 6kg stoneware clay (after that 50 SEK/kg)
  • Bisque firing of 1-2 figures
  • Coffee/tea and snacks after lunch
  • Drejverkstaden's fabric bag
  • Opportunity to leave your shoes during the weekend

Prerequisites
You need to be able to center about one kilogram of clay

Course structure and content: In this course, we explore the possibilities of the potter's wheel to create forms that are then used to build sculptures. We learn to look at the thrown forms in a new way and throw them with the intention of using them as building blocks. Not letting the shaping end when the parts leave the wheel. When we throw forms to build sculpture, other challenges arise regarding the technical execution. But the challenges also present opportunities. Together we explore the properties of clay.

With ceramicist and artist Emil Österholm, the joy of creation is at the center. Emil's own robot sculptures have become a well-known concept, but his other sculptures have also received attention. Among other things, a toaster made on commission by Filip and Fredrik for their ten-year gala on Kanal 5. Inspiration for his inventive sculptures and powerful utility items in wood-fired stoneware comes from both contemporary and historical sources, but above all from the ceramic craft and his own imagination.

During these two days, everyone will get to throw and assemble their own figures.

Everyone has their own potter's wheel with adequate spacing and plexiglass between participants' places. The group consists of a maximum of 15 participants.

Sustainable materials

In the courses, we work with stoneware clay from the German company Witgerts. At Drejverkstaden, we are very mindful of the environment and work in everything we do according to a sustainability plan. The clays we purchase therefore come as much as possible from Witgerts, which has a strong environmental policy.
