The course fee includes:

  • Materials: 10kg stoneware clay (after that 50 SEK/kg), calipers for everyone, small wooden pieces (preferably ice cream sticks)
  • Bisque firing of two pieces
  • Coffee/tea and snacks after lunch
  • Opportunity to leave your work clothes and shoes over the weekend

Prerequisites
You need to be able to center about one kilogram of clay, be able to lift a 15cm high cylinder, and have the willingness to dive into throwing techniques.

Course structure and content
During this course, we will look at cans in all shapes and primarily the technical aspect of making lids and a suitable lip.

During the course, we will go through several ways to make lids and talk about the many forms of the can – bonbon jar, fermentation jar, nipper box, etc. We will also cover the basics of lifting and shaping a thrown cylinder using the claw grip and throwing stick. During the demonstrations, we will also look at throwing on the wheel, on a flat surface, and how to attach handles or pull spouts on the pots.

Everyone has their own potter's wheel throughout the course. The group consists of a maximum of 15 participants.

Sustainable materials

In the courses, we work with stoneware clay from the German company Witgerts. At Drejverkstaden, we are very mindful of the environment and work in everything we do according to a sustainability plan. The clays we purchase therefore come as much as possible from Witgerts, which has a strong environmental policy.

Where

In Drejverkstaden's beautiful course facilities at Holländargatan 33, Stockholm.
