Kurinuki - Japanese theme weekend (no throwing)
Kurinuki means "to hollow out" in Japanese, and it is a special method for creating cups, bowls, and pots with a lot of character and feeling. The object is sculpted from a solid piece of clay, and in combination with different clays and glazes, completely unique surfaces are created.
Lisa Hartwig Ericson has combined her interest in traditional Japanese crafts with her desire to experiment with color and form to create special kurinuki objects. During these two days, Lisa will show you how to use the Japanese technique to create your own unique objects and share tips and ideas for decoration and creating effects on the surface using differently colored clays and glazes.
After the weekend, the pieces must be bisque fired before glazing, so we will meet 4 weeks later to glaze them together. After that, it will take about another 4 weeks (they are now being glaze fired) before you can come and pick up your finished works.
The course fee includes:
- Course compendium
- 2kg stoneware clay + slips/glazes/decorative materials + firing (after that, clay costs 70 SEK/kg)
- Drejverkstaden's nice fabric bag or shopping bag
- Coffee/tea and snacks after lunch
- Possibility to leave your shoes during the weekend

Sustainable materials
At Drejverkstaden, we are very mindful of the environment and work in everything we do according to a sustainability plan. The clays we purchase come from Witgerts, which has a strong environmental policy. In the courses, we only work with stoneware clays. The advantage of stoneware is that the fired goods are very durable and that the glazes are more environmentally friendly. We strive to mix the glazes as environmentally friendly and sustainable as possible. We pre-rinse all our glazing tools and thereby recycle all glaze residue particles, which in turn become a new glaze. The electricity we use comes solely from renewable energy.
