Welcome to a ceramics course at the pottery studio, where you will learn everything about throwing.

The course fee includes:

  • Course compendium
  • The Pottery Workshop's fabric bag
  • 3kg stoneware clay + slips/glazes/decorating materials + firing
  • Coffee/tea and snack accessories during the break every time
  • Possibility to leave your work shoes

Prerequisites

The course is suitable for both complete beginners and those with previous experience. The teaching takes place in the form of individual guidance, and you have good opportunities to develop if you take multiple courses or sessions. A certificate of completion will be provided if desired.

Course structure and content

You will learn pottery, decoration, glazing techniques, and more. It will also be demonstrated how to throw cups, bowls, jars, and candlesticks - tall, short, large, and small. Depending on your skill level, we will help you further develop.

Session 1: Demonstration of centering and throwing a cylinder
Session 2: Demonstration of throwing
Session 3-5: Practice and demonstration of various techniques
Occasion 6: Try out porcelain clay, recycling, and training on the wheel
Session 7: Glazing

The teaching mainly consists of practical work under the guidance of the course leader. Everyone has their own potter's wheel throughout the course.

Sustainable materials

In the courses, we work with two different stoneware clays. The advantage of stoneware is that the fired goods are very durable and that the glazes are more environmentally friendly. At the Pottery Workshop, we are very mindful of the environment and work in everything we do according to a sustainability plan. The clays we purchase come from Witgerts, which has a strong environmental policy. We strive to mix the glazes as environmentally friendly and sustainable as possible. We pre-rinse all our glazing tools.
